As we head into the second half of summer—yes, you read that correctly, the second half of summer already!—I wanted to share some information with you. Please read through the following topics and let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to help!
Activities Registration: We use an online registration system for our activities. You will need to create a family account once. After that, you can continue to use that for future students. You can access the Activities Registration site here. If you are a returning user—even if you had a child graduate and you have a new one at MLHS this year—use the login to my account button. If you have never registered a student before, use the create new account button. I have attached a Quick Start Guide to help you.
Once you have logged into the site, you will arrive at your family home page. Once there, you click on Register on the left had side of the page, choosing either a student who is already on the account or registering a new student. Complete/update the seven pages of information and you will be set. You can choose multiple activities by holding down CTRL while you click.
At the end of the registration process, on step 7, you will see two buttons. One says Continue to Pay. The other is Pay Later. If you would like to pay the activity fee by credit card, click the Continue to Pay button. Please note you will be assessed a service fee with the payment. If you wish to pay by check or cash, click the Pay Later button. The activity fee must be paid prior to the student’s participation in the activity. The activity fee for 2020-2021 is $245 for all activities except golf, which is $285 and includes a Junior Membership to Shadowbrooke Golf Course for the 2021 season
Physical Examinations: During the registration process you will be asked about your child’s current physical status and asked to upload a copy of their current physical. You can upload either a photo or a PDF. Physicals are required to participate in all sports; activities such as jazz band, quiz bowl, robotics and drama do not require a physical. Physicals are good for three calendar years. Please note that due to COVID-19 the following is in effect regarding physicals:
· If your physical expires after March 12, 2020, that expiration date has been extended to the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
· Any student who has not previously participated and who does not have a physical on file is required to have a physical and clearance prior to participation.
Should your child need a physical because it expired before March 12, 2020 or because they have not had one before, please try to schedule a sports physical immediately. The form is attached to this email. After completing the form and having it signed by a doctor, you should upload the form to your registration. We need this on file in order for your child to participate.
Twin City Orthopedics is offering free sports physicals the week of August 3-6. You will need to sign up for these in advance. See their website for times and locations and to register.
NCAA Bound Athletes: We are asking all families who have children who could potentially explore playing athletics at the college level to let us know. We want to make sure you get the information about the NCAA Clearinghouse and get registered so as to avoid any eligibility complications. Please send me an email to let me know your child is potentially interested.
Fall Activities: Mayer Lutheran currently offers the following fall activities. For questions specific to each activity, please reach out to the head coach/director. Fall sports are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 17.
· Volleyball Head Coach Joelle Grimsley
· Football Head Coach Dean Aurich
· Girls Soccer Head Coach Keith Traska
· Boys Soccer Head Coach Michael Greene (co-op hosted by Watertown-Mayer)
· Cross Country Head Coach Jake Oie (co-op hosted by Lester Prairie)
· Jazz Band Director Luke Alliger
· Fall Musical Director Alan Holasek
I continually get questions about the likelihood of having a fall sports season, will fall and spring flip, will fans be allowed and a myriad of other questions. At this point, what I can tell you is that the Minnesota State High School League is moving forward with plans to have fall activities beginning August 17. As we near August 1, schools should get more direction from the Minnesota Department of Education, which could help shape fall activities. As we learn more, I will share what we learn. I will continue to prepare for a school year full of activities.
CRUSADER APPAREL: We are currently working on finishing up our apparel stores for our fall activities—volleyball, football and soccer. Once these are ready, I will send out the links to access these stores and purchase your spirit wear. As always, you can order any time on the Crusader Sideline Store. If you order $80 or more in July you can save 20% with the code JULY20.
Thank you for your commitment to this ministry at Mayer Lutheran. We are truly honored to serve your students and families with everything we do here. Despite the uncertainty of this upcoming school year, one thing I know to be true is that our faculty and staff are eager to get back to their ministry with your children. God’s blessings on your weekend.
In His Service,
