On March 4, 1957, a meeting was held in Young America, Minnesota made up of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod pastors, teachers, and laymen to consider founding a Lutheran high school for young people in the Carver County area. The school exploratory committee created the Lutheran High School Association, which received a charter from the State of Minnesota on August 19, 1959.
The founding members decided to begin the new Lutheran High School in September, 1961 on a twenty-acre parcel of land acquired from Curtis and Arlys Honebrink. The cornerstone for the new school building was laid on June 25, 1961, but the building was not ready at the start of school in September, so classes were temporarily held in the Mayer City Hall. Twenty freshmen and sixteen sophomores began school there until the new building was completed on December 10, 1961.
In 1984, the school recognized the following as Founders of the school:

Because of the dedication and vision of these people, more than 3,400 graduates of Mayer Lutheran High School have been prepared for lives of Christian service.
To God All Praise and Glory!
