Mayer Lutheran High School is once again hosting Crusaders For A Cure – this year on Saturday, February 9. This marks the second time the event will host both boys and girls games, the girls vs. Blake and the boys vs. Belle Plaine. It is sure to be a packed house, so come early to get your seat! Game times are as follows:
- Boys C-Squad – 12:30 PM
- Boys B-Squad – 2:00 PM
- Girls B-Squad – 4:00 PM
- Girls Varsity – 6:00 PM
- Boys Varsity – 8:00 PM
All proceeds of the Crusaders For A Cure activities will go to Ridgeview Medical Center’s Pay It Forward patient assistance fund. Through this fund Ridgeview is able to provide emergency financial assistance to patients facing challenges during their treatment for cancer. In the past eight years, the MLHS girls basketball team has raised over $40,000 for the Pay It Forward fund.
The most exciting activity of the day is sure to be the shooting contests. You can pay to shoot from a spot on the floor; if you make the shot you get an entry into a drawing for lots of great prizes, including the grand prize of a 49” TCL HD Smart TV. The following shots are offered: $2 for a half-court shot, $5 for a three pointer, $10 for a free throw, and $30 for a layup, which you can shoot until you make!
Our second shooting contest is for a gaming system (Nintendo Switch or Xbox One). For $20 you are automatically entered in the drawing. You will be able to shoot two free throws. Each free throw you make will give you an additional entry to the drawing. If you want three entries into the drawing guaranteed, you can purchase that for $40.
Shooting contests will be held at halftimes of each game as well as between games.
Don’t want to shoot? You can also rent a MLHS basketball player. For $10, they will shoot two free throws for you. If they make both, you will receive two entries into a drawing for a second television. If they make one or none, you will still receive an entry (please note—renting a player does not qualify you for all prizes).
Additionally, this year freshman Emma Lade secured a fantastic prize. She was able to secure two seats to the March 10 Timberwolves game. These seats are in the second row across from the visitor’s bench. They include VIP valet parking, dinner and drinks. Attached you will find information about these tickets as well as a picture taken from the seats. We will be giving these away in a drawing. If you would like to make a donation to Crusaders For A Cure and enter this drawing, please contact me. Cost to enter the drawing is $10. You can also get three entries for $20 and 10 entries for $50. These will also be available for purchase the night of the event.
Finally, if you would like to show your support by purchasing a t-shirt, these will be available at school beginning Wednesday. They are white and numbers and sizes are limited. Feel free to email me if you would like to reserve one. The cost is $10 and all proceeds will be donated to the Crusaders For A Cure event. (The t-shirt image is to the right.)
In addition to all of the above, a bake sale will be taking place on this great night. All items will be $2. We will also have pork sandwiches available for sale that day in the concession stand. Plan on coming February 9 to show your support for those who have faced and will face cancer. For more information or to donate to this great cause, please contact a girls basketball player or Coach Gustin at (952) 657-2251 x1217 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you in advance for your support.
