Lego League Robotics

Mayer Lutheran was blessed again at this year in hosting three FIRST LEGO League teams. These are groups of boys and girls from area grade schools and homeschoolers. Team coaches were Michael & Sherri Venero, Mike Cohrs, and Deb Mack & Erik Mehlhaff. These dedicated coaches worked with their teams from late August to early December to get them ready for their LEGO League tournaments.

Each of the teams had some measure of success during the various aspects of the competition. The competition is broken into three components: mission field, research project, and core values. One of our teams, The Five Roboteers, placed first in the morning programming robot missions and then proceeded to finish in second place in the single-elimination tournament portion of the competition.

This FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competition challenges students not only in the robot and robot design but also on teamwork and other study skills.

A sincere thank you as we bid farewell to some of our coaches. We couldn’t do it without you. We welcome new parent/coaches who are interested in being a part of this valuable activity.

Please contact Mr. Loontjer, program coordinator, at 952-657-2251 x1104 or gloontjer@lhsmayer.org.
