At Mayer Lutheran high school, we are dedicated to preparing the next generation of Christian leaders through a robust academic program grounded in a biblical worldview. Our curriculum covers core content areas of math, science, social studies, English, and theology, as well as providing students with elective course opportunities to learn and develop skills in visual arts, technology, instrumental and vocal music, physical education, foreign language, and woodshop.
Each subject area provides rigorous courses that build academic and life skills, with courses intentionally designed to encourage critical thinking and foster a deep understanding of both the material and its connection to society, the Christian faith, and Christian leadership.
In addition, Mayer Lutheran offers dual credit (high school and college credit) to aspiring students (11th and 12th grade) in three ways.
- College in the Schools (CIS) courses in English, Math, Science, and Spanish. that offer high school and college credit. These courses are taught by Mayer Lutheran faculty.
- Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available in social studies and technology. Students completing these courses take a test at the end of the year and based on the score that is achieved colleges and universities will determine if college credit has been earned.
- On-line PSEO courses are available through several universities that we partner with throughout Minnesota.
Mayer Lutheran’s academic program provides students with opportunities to explore academic areas, develop curiosity, and determine areas of interest for their post-secondary education.

At Mayer Lutheran we offer a comprehensive curriculum designed to engage students in an educational experience through a Christian (biblical) worldview. Our academic content is organized into five core areas, alongside a variety of enriching elective areas.

Core Content Areas
Mathematics
Courses: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Consumers Math, Algebra 2, College Algebra (CIS), Precalculus (CIS), Calculus (CIS)
Focus: Developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the teaching of mathematical properties and processes that build upon each other unveiling the logical complexity of this content area and how it points to the amazing and complex design of the world God created.
Science
Courses: Physics and Engineering, Biology, Honors Biology, Everyday Chemistry, Environmental Science, Astronomy and Meteorology, Chemistry, Advanced Biology (Human Anatomy & Physiology), Physics (CIS)
Focus: Exploring the wonders of God’s creation by gaining understanding about how the world works through direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, and robust labs.
Social Studies
Courses: Geography, United States History, World History, United States Government, Macroeconomics, Psychology, AP United States History, AP World History
Focus: Understanding the human experience throughout time, seeing God’s interaction in history, and understanding how the past can be used to inform the present and future.
English
Courses: English 9, English 10, Honors English 10, World Literature, American Literature, College Writing and Research (CIS), Survey of American Literature (CIS), Introduction to Literary Analysis (CIS), Introduction to Public Communication
Focus: Develop skills in the areas of writing, including research papers, critical thinking through literary analysis, and communication through the study of diverse literary works.
Theology
Courses: Old Testament, New Testament, Comparative Religions, Christian Ethics & Apologetics
Focus: Deepening students’ understanding of Scripture, solidifying a firm foundation for faith, preparing students for life after high school through an understanding of world religions, ethical decision making from a Christian perspective, and a deep understanding of what they believe and the ability to explain their faith in Christ.
Elective Courses
Our diverse range of electives allows students to explore their interests and develop new skills, including, but not limited to:
- Computer Science (including Advanced Placement courses)
- Foreign Language – Spanish (including two years of CIS courses)
- Freshmen Seminar
- A transition to high school course helping equip 9th grade students for academic success, develop key technology skills, and to equip them for the social situations that are part of high school and life.
